Colorado Ice Hockey Win Streak Ends at 38 Games

BY Ben Sieck ON February 4, 2015 | ICE HOCKEY

The Ralston Valley (Colorado) boys hockey team has been the dominant force in the Colorado High School Athletic Association for nearly two years. The Mustangs have won back-to-back state championships, and compiled a 42-game unbeaten streak and a 38-game win streak dating back to January 30, 2013.

That all changed last Friday when the Mustangs traveled to take on the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles.

After trailing 2-0 and 3-2, the Golden Eagles scored twice in the final period, rallying to win 4-3.

A win over a program like Ralston Valley could signify the continued rise of the Mountain Vista program. This is just the fourth season the school has participated in boys hockey.

Mountain Vista has reached the quarterfinals in each of the past three seasons, and defeating the defending champs could signal Mountain Vista is ready to contend for a championship of its own.

Ralston Valley’s 38 consecutive win streak is impressive, but Woonsocket (Rhode Island) Mt. St. Charles Academy holds the national record for boys hockey. That program won 94 consecutive games from 1977-82.
