Announcing Beyond the Building: A New Educational Resource from School Music License

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is proud to announce a new video series created through its partnership with School Music License: “Beyond the Building: The Evolution of Sharing School Events.”  

This series brings together educators, experts and industry leaders to explore how technology has transformed the way schools share experiences, celebrate student achievements, and connect with their communities online. From streaming and social media to copyright, licensing and the future of digital engagement, the video series examines the opportunities and responsibilities that come with sharing in an increasingly connected world. 

The guests for this series span the music and technology industries, including John Mlynczak, chief executive officer of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM); Tim Lautzenheiser, senior vice president, Music Education Conn-Selmer, Inc.; Alex Shapiro, publisher & composer of Activist Music, LLC; Steve Bock, president of Fred Bock Music; Kyle Cothern, permissions editor of GIA Publications, Inc.; Susan LaBarr, editor & choral composer with Walton Music; Taylor Watts, associate director of bands at Kell High School, Marietta, Georgia; and Alec Harris, president of GIA Publications, Inc. and School Music License.

The series is hosted by Brenna C. Horn-Cronin, executive general manager of School Music License and recipient of the 2026 Music Publishers Association Arnold Broido Award for Copyright Advocacy.
