NFHS High School Football Survey

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has launched a comprehensive national research project regarding participation and perception trends in high school football.

Over the past decade, the sport of high school football has been the subject of intense scrutiny, as emphasis on concussion education and overall injury risk mitigation strategies have become necessary priorities. The NFHS, member state associations, and the football community at large have responded to health and safety concerns by transforming sport development principles, revising coaching methodologies and enhancing stakeholder education programs. At the same time, there is also data from the youth football community indicating a significant gap between perceived risk of concussion and actual concussions reported. (LaBella C. The NFHS intends to gain a better understanding of the participation and perception trends in the high school football community. In partnership with the UpMetrics research group, four survey instruments have been developed; one each for coaches/ADs, officials, parents and student-athletes. We are asking for feedback from stakeholder groups who are currently involved in the sport, as well as those who were formerly involved. The online surveys do not ask for personal information. Demographic information for all participants is limited to zip code; and for students, age and gender if comfortable. The survey links below will provide a basic view of survey questions.
