Make Music Day

Make Music Day, held every June 21, is a global celebration of music, originating in France in 1982. On the longest day of the year, ring in the summer by singing, playing, or listening to music on streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas across the country! With music performed by anyone and free for everyone, the day is a tribute to diversity and creativity, inviting everyone to join in the universal pleasure of music-making.
This year, the NFHS, Alfred Music, FJH Music, the NAMM Foundation, MakeMusic, Inc., and Make Music Alliance are partnering to give participants FREE access to Brian Balmages work, Eagles Among Us. This piece is a Grade 2 work (2:30 duration) with parts for band, strings, or a combined ensemble. Parts for all three pieces are available for free through MakeMusic Cloud, and printable parts and scores will be sent to all who register.

About the Music
Eagles Among Us serves as an important reminder that, in each one of our school buildings and in our communities, there are those with the capability of not only soaring, but also lifting up those around them. It is no secret that many of these individuals are in the band and orchestra rooms. The place we often go before and after school to feel like part of a community. The like-minded individuals who are our people, and helps us soar like the eagles we all know we can be. The eagles who soar and remind us of our true potential, often helping us realize a higher standard than we ever thought was possible. True eagles do not just soar on their own. They encourage each of us to spread our wings and fly.
So to all the folks out there, this is for you. This is for your band or your orchestra. This is a powerful reminder that, wherever there is music, there are eagles among us.
About the instrumentation: The orchestration is unique in that it works in three different ensemble configurations:
Full Orchestra (without the need of bass clarinet, all saxes, and euphonium)
Concert Band (without the need of strings)
Band and strings combined
