NFHS Announces Two Changes to Administrative Staff for 2025-26 School Year
The NFHS has announced two administrative staff changes as the 2025-26 school year has commenced.
Chris Paulson has been selected NFHS director of performing arts and sports and began his new duties this week. In addition, Kim McIntosh, a 23-year member of the NFHS staff and a graphic designer for 38 years, has been promoted to assistant director of design and printing services.
Paulson joined the NFHS staff as manager of performing arts and sports last year after serving 18 years as a band director at the middle school and high school levels in Indiana.
Paulson began his teaching career as the middle school band director and general music teacher for five years at Grissom Middle School in Mishawaka, Indiana. In 2011, Paulson moved to Mishawaka Penn High School, where he served as assistant director of bands and as the instructional coach for the Fine Arts and Communications Academy.
After six years at Penn High School, Paulson transitioned to Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana, where he served for five years (2017-22) as director of bands and performing arts department chair. From 2022 to 2024, Paulson served as co-director of bands at Brownsburg (Indiana) High School.
While teaching, Paulson served as a regular adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association and guest conductor for regional honor bands. He has held memberships in Phi Beta Mu, the Indiana Music Educators Association, Indiana Bandmasters Association, National Association for Music Education and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Paulson graduated from Hamilton Southeastern Schools in Fishers, Indiana, where he participated in the school’s music program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Ball State University in 2006, and he completed his Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting in 2013 from the American Band College, through Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
McIntosh has been a part of the NFHS Publications and Communications Department since 2002, and she has been the graphic designer for most NFHS publications during that time. In addition to serving as graphic designer for the NFHS’s monthly magazine, High School Today, since 2007, McIntosh also regularly designs the NFHS Handbook, NFHS Annual Report, NFHS rules publications, NFHS Court and Field Diagram Guide, and all materials for the NFHS Summer Meeting and National Athletic Directors Conference.
McIntosh’s duties were expanded in February 2024 with the inclusion of printing services, including working with vendors on all printed jobs and working with the accounting department on invoices and budget information.
Prior to joining the NFHS staff, McIntosh was a graphic designer at Agri Business Group for seven years, which involved designing materials for top companies in the agricultural field. Prior to that position, she was a graphic designer at Lee Supply for two years after opening her career in graphic design with a seven-year stint at Spec Solution advertising agency.
In addition, through freelance work at Purdue University, McIntosh was involved with production of a book, Precision Farming Profitability, which won an award of excellence. She also designed the NFHS’ centennial commemorative book, From Chicago to Indy – the First 100 Years.
McIntosh, a 1983 graduate of Avon (Indiana) High School where she participated in volleyball, softball and marching band, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Indiana State University in 1987.
