2025-26 Field Hockey Rules Committee Welcomes New Members
NFHS rules writing committees consist of experts in the given sport. Each committee member is nominated by state associations, as is the chairperson, who guides the members through their work. Each of the NFHS’s eight sections who have field hockey are represented on the given rules committee. To allow for equal representation, there is also a member of the NFHS Coaches Association and the NFHS Officials Association on each rules committee. Each committee member serves a four-year term.
The NFHS is pleased to welcome three new members of the Field Hockey Rules Committee: Sammie Briers, Erin Maguire-Osting, and Paige Winne.
Sammie Briers, Section 1, has officiated high school, college, and club field hockey since 2020. She serves as the Treasurer/Secretary of the New Hampshire Field Hockey Umpire Association board of directors, and she is dedicated to supporting opportunities for kids at all levels to play field hockey and grow their love for the game.
Outside the realm of field hockey, Briers was a member of the George Washington University cheer team in college while earning her Bachelor's degree, and went on to earn her Master of Public Health from the University of Edinburgh. She is an operations executive in the healthcare services industry.
Erin Maguire-Osting, Section 2, has served the Kentucky community as an umpire since 2003 and has worked with KHSAA and JCPS as the Umpire Assigning Secretary for middle and high school leagues since 2014. In 2024, Maguire-Osting received the KHSAA Larry G. Boucher, Jr. Officials Supervisor of the Year Award.
Maguire-Osting also serves as a founding board member and the current secretary for the United States Field Hockey Association's Kentucky State Chapter. Maguire-Osting resides in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband Drew, young players: Finley (7) and Fallon (4) and future player Keelan (infant).
Paige Winne, Section 4, joined the staff at the Michigan High School Athletic Association after graduating from Michigan State University in 2013. Winne coordinates the sport of field hockey, all MHSAA social media, marketing and graphics, and the scholar-athlete award and assists with production of the Women In Sports Leadership Conference, and various other student leadership programs. Winne is a women’s lacrosse assigner and game official at the high school and collegiate levels and served on the Women’s Lacrosse Officials of Michigan board. While at MSU, Winne ran one season each of cross country and track while studying toward her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology.
The Field Hockey Rules Committee Meeting will take place January 12-14, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
