Ice Hockey Rules Interpretations - 2026-27

SITUATION 1: After making a save, the goalkeeper’s catching glove comes off. RULING: Play shall be immediately stopped. (3-3-5)
SITUATION 2: Player A1 has a microphone or camera attached to the jersey to capture point-of-view (POV) game sound and/or video footage. RULING: Penalty – first offense, MISCONDUCT; returning to the game with illegal equipment, GAME MISCONDUCT. (3-8)
SITUATION 3: Player A1 contacts Player B1 away from the boards. The contact throws Player B1 into the boards. RULING: Penalty for boarding must be assessed. Official’s discretion: (a) minor penalty; (b) major penalty if the player is violently thrown into the boards; (c) major penalty and misconduct; or (d) game disqualification. (7-18)
