The Maryland State Board of Education has appointed Andy Warner as the new executive director of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA). Warner becomes the sixth person to lead the MPSSAA since its inception in 1946, succeeding the 34-year tenure of the retiring Ned Sparks.

Warner has served as MPSSAA Assistant Director since 2006. Among his responsibilities during that time:

  • providing administrative guidance for all state championship events, including site coordinator of the football state championships;

  • coordinating the student leadership initiative;

  • managing MPSSAA publications and communications.

Warner has worked extensively on MPSSAA strategic planning, budget analysis, and health and safety task force initiatives. Prior to joining the MPSSAA, he served as assistant director of athletic communications at both the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Mt. St. Mary’s University.
