Catching Up With "the Greatest Pitcher You've Never Heard of"

After more than 50 years, Francisco Thompson's national record hasn't been touched. From 1963-65, Thompson pitched for Nogales (Arizona) High School, posting an earned-run average of 0.11, a record that still stands today.

This article from the Green Valley News catches up with Thompson and looks back on his dominating career.

Thompson, now 70, put together an astounding career from 1963-65 at Nogales High School, going 21-2 on the mound with an eye-popping 0.11 ERA. It is still the lowest career ERA in American high school baseball history, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.

"I was very competitive," Thompson says. "I always wanted to strike out all the batters. I didn't like people hitting me, so I went after them."
